Through the federal Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, Mogadishu has officially kicked off Plastic Free Campaign Week, a citywide initiative aimed at reducing plastic waste and promoting eco-friendly alternatives.

The campaign, led by local authorities and environmental groups, seeks to raise awareness about the harmful effects of plastic pollution on Somalia’s ecosystems and public health.

Key Objectives of the Campaign

1) Public education, which involves workshops and community outreach programs to highlight the dangers of plastic pollution.

2) Waste reduction by encouraging businesses and residents to adopt reusable bags, bottles, and containers.

3) Clean-up drives that revolve around organized efforts designed to remove plastic waste from streets, beaches, and waterways.

4) Policy advocacy by pushing for stronger regulations on single-use plastics in Mogadishu.

This initiative reflects a growing movement across Somalia to address environmental challenges and promote sustainable practices. Residents are urged to participate by avoiding single-use plastics and supporting greener alternatives.
