On Friday, Somalia’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, Lt. Gen. Bashir Mohamed Jama, paid a significant visit to the Somali Embassy in Geneva as part of broader efforts to enhance the country’s global climate diplomacy.

The visit underscored Somalia’s growing commitment to elevating its presence and influence in international environmental forums, including the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) and the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC).

During discussions with embassy officials and representatives of partner organizations, Lt. Gen. Jama emphasized the importance of amplifying Somalia’s voice on pressing issues such as climate resilience, environmental degradation, and sustainable development.

He also highlighted the urgent need for international support in addressing the severe impacts of climate change in Somalia, including droughts, floods, and land degradation.

The minister’s visit is part of Somalia’s broader diplomatic agenda to forge stronger environmental partnerships, attract technical assistance, and ensure that Somalia’s unique challenges and priorities are adequately represented in global climate negotiations.
