Rome, Italy – Dr. Cabdullahi Khalif, the National Facilitator for the Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC) Partnership, held a strategic meeting with Mr. Giovanni Munoz and his team at the Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Investment Centre this week, representing Lt. Gen. Bashir Mohamed Jama, Somalia’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change.
The discussions centered on Somalia’s upcoming NDC 3.0 Investment Plan, a framework designed to align climate action projects with donor priorities while strengthening the country’s resilience against climate shocks.
Both parties agreed to jointly develop three to four project concepts in the coming months, which will be finalized and presented at the COP30 summit. These projects are expected to highlight Somalia’s climate commitments under its updated Nationally Determined Contributions (NDCs), showcasing practical steps to mobilize finance and advance adaptation and mitigation measures.
The collaboration signals Somalia’s intent to position itself as an active partner in global climate negotiations. By aligning its investment priorities with international partners, the federal government seeks to secure long-term financing for initiatives tackling drought, food insecurity, and environmental degradation.
The meeting underscores Somalia’s broader strategy to integrate climate resilience into national development, with COP30 serving as a critical platform to rally support for the country’s efforts.
