Somalia’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, headed by Dr. Bashir Mohamed Jama, took part in the Opening Plenary of UNEA-7 today, which is being held in Nairobi.

The Somali contingent comprised Ambassador to Kenya H.E. Jabril Ibrahim Abdulle, Ministry Director General Mr. Abdirisaq Ahmed Ali, and senior ministry advisers.

The high-level conference, continuing through December 12, offers a vital forum for UNEP member states to address sustainable environmental solutions, combat climate change, and advance global environmental protection. Somalia is showing firm dedication to actively engage in dialogues and decisions focused on establishing a resilient and sustainable environmental future.

Throughout the conference, Somalia’s Ministry delegation will engage in specialized sessions, high-level dialogues, and interactive forums addressing key national priorities such as climate adaptation, natural resource management, and enhanced international cooperation.

Recognized as one of the nations most susceptible to climate change effects, Somalia intends to leverage this gathering to amplify its international voice, highlight current challenges and opportunities, and forge extensive partnerships that endorse national environmental initiatives and community resilience.
