Summary
This report, submitted in accordance with Security Council resolution 1612 (2005) and subsequent resolutions on children and armed conflict, is the seventh Secretary-General report concerning children and armed conflict in Somalia and covers the period from 1 October 2021 to 31 December 2024.
The report documents the impact of conflict on children in Somalia, highlighting trends and patterns regarding the six grave violations against children, namely the recruitment and use of children as soldiers, the killing and maiming of children, rape and other forms of sexual violence against children, attacks on schools, hospitals and protected persons in relation to schools and/or hospitals, the abduction of children and the denial of humanitarian access. Where available, the report contains information on perpetrators. The report also outlines the progress made in addressing grave violations against children.
The report contains recommendations addressed to the parties to the conflict in Somalia aimed at ending and preventing grave violations against children and strengthening the protection of children.
