Major General Hon. Bashir Mohamed Jama, Somalia’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, attended the official launch of the SINNAAN Project, a comprehensive initiative aimed at promoting equity, supporting vulnerable communities, and improving climate adaptation efforts.
At the event, Minister Bashir thanked the Ministry of Interior, Federal Affairs and Reconciliation of Somalia for their dedicated commitment and active involvement in implementing the SINNAAN Project. He stressed that effective collaboration among government institutions is vital for the success of national development initiatives.
In his speech, the Minister outlined major environmental challenges confronting Somalia, including the severe consequences of climate change like recurring droughts, flooding, environmental deterioration, and their adverse impacts on livelihoods and community resilience.
Minister Bashir observed that the SINNAAN Project serves a critical function in addressing these challenges by backing climate adaptation initiatives, advancing social equity, and helping communities most exposed to climate-related risks.
He also praised government institutions, international partners, and development organizations for their contributions to the project’s successful implementation, emphasizing the importance of coordinated partnerships in environmental protection and climate resilience.
Finally, the Minister reaffirmed the Ministry’s dedication to formulating and implementing policies and programs that strengthen environmental protection, improve climate resilience, and secure a sustainable environmental future for current and future generations.
