The air-supported operation led to several confrontations with Al-Shabaab combatants, with no reported injuries among the security forces.

Somali National Army forces, collaborating with the African Union Support and Stabilisation Mission in Somalia (AUSSOM) and allied nations, eliminated approximately 30 Al-Shabaab fighters in the Lower Shabelle Region.

A combined statement from the military forces confirmed that the militants were eliminated on January 15 during a successful operation conducted near the Bulunagaad Forward Operating Base (FOB).

The extremists had previously targeted SNA and AUSSOM troops during pursuit operations against remaining Al-Shabaab fighters driven out of the coastal towns of Gendershe and the Jilib-Marka corridor during SNA’s Operation Hidden Sword.

The air-assisted operation involved multiple clashes with Al-Shabaab militants, with no reported losses among the official forces.

Through synchronized ground and aerial attacks, more than 30 Al-Shabaab combatants were killed, with additional fighters wounded. The SNA, AUSSOM, and allied forces responded quickly and decisively to eliminate terrorist threats endangering security personnel and civilians in the region.

The statement emphasized that the SNA and AUSSOM, in partnership with allies, are dedicated to safeguarding civilian lives, preserving security, and guaranteeing the secure delivery of humanitarian aid and logistical supplies to local populations.

Combined forces will persist with operations to diminish Al-Shabaab’s combat capabilities and advance enduring peace, stability, and security throughout Somalia.

Separately, Somali intelligence officials announced on Thursday that, with international assistance, they executed a significant operation against a residence where high-ranking Al-Shabaab commanders were gathering in Bu’ale district, Middle Juba region.

According to local reports, the airstrike operation struck a crucial safe house, potentially damaging the organization’s leadership structure.

The previous day, the agency reported conducting a deliberate operation on the edge of Afgooye district in Lower Shabelle, eliminating an Al-Shabaab operative responsible for landmine placement who had evaded capture for an extended period.

Numerous additional strikes against the militant organization and ISIS–Somalia have been executed this year across different regions of Somalia, encompassing the Jilib area, Saakow, Buur Heybo, Godane, and the Golis Mountains.

Information regarding the defeated militants has not yet been disclosed.
