Mogadishu, Somalia – Somalia’s National Disaster Management Authority (SoDMA) announced on Monday that it has received a $1 million donation from the Chinese Government to enhance emergency drought response initiatives nationwide.
The financial contribution was officially presented at SoDMA’s headquarters by Chinese Ambassador to Somalia Wang Yu and accepted by SoDMA Commissioner Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle.
According to the commissioner, this donation will expedite vital humanitarian operations, providing food assistance, clean water, and essential services to communities most severely affected by the persistent drought. Abdulle stated, “This contribution will substantially improve our ability to deliver timely aid to vulnerable populations,” highlighting that millions continue to require urgent assistance because of extended dry spells.
Chinese Ambassador Wang Yu reiterated China’s enduring partnership with Somalia, affirming Beijing’s ongoing commitment to supporting both humanitarian and development initiatives in the nation. The ambassador declared, “China will maintain its solidarity with the Somali people and continue helping mitigate humanitarian difficulties.”
The SoDMA commissioner further mentioned that the agency will maintain close collaboration with China and other international donors to guarantee that assistance reaches affected communities promptly and with full transparency.
