The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change of Somalia has issued a weekly weather forecast for the period from April 30 to May 7, 2025, highlighting the likelihood of heavy rainfall and potential flooding in various parts of the country.
According to the forecast, significant downpours are expected in the regions of Bay, Bakool, Lower Shabelle, Galgaduud, Sanaag, and Togdheer, with projected rainfall ranging between 30 to 150 millimeters.
These areas are at heightened risk of flash floods, particularly in low-lying zones and riverine communities.
Conversely, other regions including Lower Juba, Middle Shabelle, Mudug, and Bari are forecast to experience reduced rainfall during the same period.
This drier trend will be most noticeable in coastal districts bordering the Red Sea and Indian Ocean.
While these areas may escape the threat of flooding, communities depending on consistent rainfall for agriculture and livestock could face water stress.
Residents in the affected regions are advised to take precautionary measures and follow local authorities’ guidance.
Humanitarian and disaster response agencies are also urged to remain alert and prepared for potential emergencies arising from weather-related impacts.
