MOGADISHU Qatari media outlets reported that Qatar Charity has made a significant humanitarian contribution by enhancing water accessibility in Somalia, delivering 113 million liters of safe drinking water to displaced families affected by extreme drought conditions.

The program, financed by Qatar’s citizens, implements a forward-looking approach intended to lessen the effects of natural catastrophes and offer lasting water resources for at-risk populations in areas surrounding Mogadishu and within Baidoa’s displacement camps.

For the Mogadishu periphery, the initiative delivered 74.5 million liters of potable water, satisfying the requirements of 2,300 families throughout 2026, continuing assistance efforts that commenced in 2023.

In Baidoa, situated in Southwest State, Qatar Charity effected substantial change by allocating 38.8 million liters across a six-month period, guaranteeing that 2,400 displaced families obtain adequate clean water supplies.

These critical measures in Baidoa seek to prevent waterborne disease transmission and decrease patterns of repeated displacement among compelled to relocate in pursuit of limited resources.

Tahir Mohammed Haj, Program Manager for Qatar Charity in Somalia, explained that these initiatives prioritize human dignity, highlighting that water availability forms the foundation of resistance against severe climatic variations.

The program’s effect manifests in beneficiaries’ experiences; Amna Ibrahim and Habiba Hassan from Baidoa described how their arduous daily water gathering has evolved into reassurance as water now arrives at their residences.

In Mogadishu, Fatima Ibrahim and Hawa Ali conveyed profound appreciation for Qatar’s support, indicating that the reliable water quality has restored health security previously lacking due to contaminated sources.

Qatari reports indicate this initiative transcends emergency assistance; it embodies social and ecological stability, enabling communities to maintain their local presence while cultivating a sustainable setting for descendants.
