Mogadishu – The Commissioner of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), Mohamud Moalim, on Thursday welcomed the Director-General of the Somali National Bureau of Statistics (SNBS), Abdisalam Abdirahman.

The SNBS Director-General and his delegation were at the SoDMA headquarters in Mogadishu for a high-level meeting focused on strengthening inter-agency collaboration.

During the meeting, the two leaders agreed to establish joint technical committees aimed at improving data sharing, coordination, and evidence-based planning across critical sectors.

The collaboration will focus on food security, disaster resilience, support for internally displaced persons (IDPs), and climate change mitigation.

Commissioner Moalim emphasized the importance of accurate data and joint planning in addressing Somalia’s recurrent climate shocks and humanitarian challenges.

He welcomed SNBS’s role in enhancing SoDMA’s ability to respond to emergencies and build long-term resilience in vulnerable communities.

DG Abdisalam noted that the partnership will ensure that statistics are effectively used to inform national strategies and resource allocation, particularly in areas prone to droughts, floods, and displacement.

The two institutions committed to enhancing institutional cooperation and aligning efforts under the National Development Plan and the country’s international obligations related to sustainable development and climate action.

The meeting marks a significant step toward integrated disaster risk management and improved data-driven policy-making in Somalia.
