Major General Bashir Mohamed Jama, Somalia’s Minister of Environment and Climate Change, joined by Mukhtar Robow Ali (Abu Mansur), the Minister of Endowments and Islamic Affairs, today took part in a tree-planting event at the ministry’s headquarters.
As part of the Somali National Tree Planting Week, this initiative seeks to create a greener Somalia, beginning with government institutions, particularly ministries and agencies, which will serve as model centers for environmental protection and enhancing the nation’s aesthetic appeal.
The officials planted diverse tree species to increase green coverage in government premises, mitigate climate change effects, aid environmental recovery, and conserve natural resources.
Mukhtar Robow Ali (Abu Mansur) highlighted that his ministry will significantly boost public awareness, especially via mosques and religious platforms, to deepen understanding of environmental protection and tree planting, which is viewed as a religious duty.
The campaign brought together officials at all levels, such as Directors General, Department Directors, and ministry personnel, who all contributed significantly to executing this vital initiative.
