MOGADISHU – Somalia is implementing national measures to establish early warning systems and improve relief preparedness, protecting local communities and reducing the effects of recurring climate shocks in the region.

The Somali National News Agency (SONNA) reported that H.E. Abdisalam Abdi Ali, Minister of Foreign Affairs and International Cooperation, toured the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA) headquarters in Mogadishu to discuss improving relief operations and field coordination.

During the visit, humanitarian monitoring systems were reviewed, highlighting the critical role of SODMA in addressing drought conditions and delivering direct assistance to those most affected by environmental changes.

According to SONNA, officials emphasized the need for a unified national coordination framework to expedite relief efforts and strengthen collaboration with international partners to safeguard citizens across various affected regions.

The same source stressed the importance of consolidating national initiatives and actively participating in ongoing rescue operations, noting that organized collective action forms the fundamental basis for addressing current humanitarian and social challenges.

The national agency stated that this initiative demonstrates high-level coordination between government entities and humanitarian institutions, intended to mobilize essential resources to overcome obstacles to strategic development and food security.

According to the report, Agency management presented detailed plans to enhance logistical capabilities and extend relief coverage to remote areas, ensuring rapid response and effective comprehensive intervention during crises.
