Mogadishu, Somalia – The Federal Government of Somalia today concluded a major milestone in its climate action journey with the successful completion of the Validation Workshop for Somalia’s Nationally Determined Contributions (NDC) 3.0 in Mogadishu.
This high-level consultation brought together federal institutions to review and validate key components and outputs of Somalia’s updated climate action plan. The event marks a critical step in the national validation process and aligns Somalia with global efforts to tackle climate change under the Paris Agreement.
The federal Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, which led the workshop, expressed sincere appreciation to all federal stakeholders for their active participation and contributions. In a statement, the ministry emphasized that this collective achievement underscores Somalia’s commitment to building a climate-resilient future.
Somalia’s NDC 3.0 outlines the country’s strategies to reduce greenhouse gas emissions and adapt to the growing impacts of climate change. With this federal-level validation now complete, further consultations will follow with other stakeholders including civil society, regional authorities, and development partners.
The updated NDC is expected to be submitted to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in June 2025, reinforcing Somalia’s role in the global climate agenda.
