MOGADISHU – H.E. Mahamuud Moallim Abdulle, Chairman of the Somali Disaster Management Agency (SoDMA), engaged in formal discussions today in Mogadishu with H.E. Mohamed Salah Hassan, Ambassador of the Arab Republic of Egypt to Somalia.
The Somali National News Agency (SONNA) reported that the talks centered on establishing bilateral humanitarian cooperation and consolidating joint initiatives to improve the nation’s response capabilities for natural crises and emergencies.
Both sides assessed disaster risk reduction approaches, highlighting the necessity of strengthening institutional capacities and creating early warning systems to cope with the accelerating climate changes affecting the region.
The Egyptian Ambassador reaffirmed Cairo’s commitment to offering sustained relief and humanitarian assistance to Somalia, emphasizing that Egypt places importance on regional stability and reducing the impacts of droughts and floods.
The Egyptian representative clarified that his country aims to become a long-term strategic partner in developing resilient institutions capable of addressing environmental challenges, transcending the conventional approach of offering direct assistance.
The Somali National News Agency (SONNA) indicated that an agreement was established on a technical support plan, which includes deploying Egyptian specialists to provide advanced training to SoDMA personnel in specialized domains.
The training programs will encompass meteorology, strategic risk evaluation, and the application of contemporary international crisis management procedures to upgrade environmental forecasting and monitoring instruments.
The Chairman of SoDMA conveyed his appreciation for this partnership, noting that incorporating Egyptian expertise into the Somali framework will enhance the agency’s capacity to safeguard the public from future disasters.
These measures form part of Somalia’s continuous initiatives to modernize its relief infrastructure, with technical collaboration with regional experts serving as a cornerstone for enabling the national agency to advance toward comprehensive preventive and proactive planning,
