Panama City, Panama – The Federal Republic of Somalia has taken a significant step in strengthening its role in global climate governance. During the UNFCCC Climate Week held in Panama, Somalia was elected Vice-Chair of the Clean Development Mechanism Designated National Authorities (CDM DNA) Forum.
Representing Somalia at the event was Ms. Ayan Harare, the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change’s Climate Finance Coordinator. Her election to the Vice-Chair position marks a milestone for Somalia’s engagement in international climate mechanisms and reflects the country’s growing leadership on climate issues.
“This recognition is a testament to Somalia’s commitment to advancing climate diplomacy and ensuring that the priorities of developing nations are represented on the global stage,” said a statement from the Ministry of Environment and Climate Change.
The CDM DNA Forum plays a vital role in supporting the implementation of climate projects and enhancing the participation of developing countries in climate finance and carbon markets.
Ms. Harare’s appointment is expected to pave the way for stronger regional partnerships and deeper international collaboration on climate-resilient development. The Ministry commended her contribution and reiterated its dedication to promoting sustainable, inclusive, and climate-resilient growth in Somalia.
