Somalia is witnessing a rapid increase in humanitarian requirements due to a grave food security and nutrition emergency caused by persistent drought, armed conflict, climate impacts, access limitations, and global economic factors. Declining resources, macroeconomic challenges, and significantly diminished aid are undermining household coping mechanisms and intensifying vulnerability.
Approximately 6.5 million individuals are expected to experience IPC Phase 3 or higher conditions from February through March 2026, which represents nearly twice the 3.4 million documented in early 2025, with more than 2 million classified in IPC Phase 4.
World Food Programme activities are encountering critical financial limitations, with the possibility of food aid suspension by July 2026 unless additional funding becomes available.
