MOGADISHU – The Somali government has initiated a comprehensive educational reform to develop the educational system according to current needs and sustainable development objectives. This reform aims to create a better future for future generations by establishing national curricula and improving educational quality throughout the country.

The Ministry of Education, Culture, and Higher Education in Mogadishu announced yesterday the formation of a specialized 15-member national committee responsible for implementing recommendations from the National Education Conference. This strategic step seeks to bring significant improvements to the national curriculum structure.

According to the Ministry’s official statement, the committee will be led by Mr. Mohamed Abdulkadir Noor, with Mr. Abdullahi Ahmed Bariise as deputy chair and Mr. Daud Mohamed Makaraan as committee secretary.

The new committee will focus on reviewing and developing national educational curricula from Grade 1 to Grade 12, ensuring they align with national identity and modern academic standards. This will help ensure Somali students remain competitive regionally and internationally.

Ministry reports indicate this action implements the key outcomes of the National Education Curriculum Review Conference held last February, which created a clear plan for modernizing educational content and cognitive development.

The committee will work within an institutional framework that integrates with federal and state education authorities, ensuring unified educational goals and addressing past system challenges through a rigorous, scientific, and methodical approach.

The national plan emphasizes building partnerships with educators, pedagogical experts, and international education partners to share technical expertise and equip the new curricula with the latest educational tools and innovations that foster creative thinking in students.

According to the Ministry’s official statement, these reforms aim to create a robust educational system that can adapt to rapid changes, helping to develop qualified personnel who will lead the nation’s development and comprehensive transformation in the years ahead.

The Ministry confirmed this step demonstrates the government’s strong commitment to making education the main driver of development, stating that the curriculum review is not just an administrative process, but a vital investment in Somali youth to ensure their future leadership and excellence.

The establishment of this committee marks a series of recent achievements in the education sector, demonstrating that Somalia is progressively reclaiming its role as a center of science and knowledge in the region, overcoming past difficulties and current challenges.

The government expects the committee to produce improved school curricula that align with the hopes of Somali families and create an engaging, motivating learning environment that guarantees everyone’s right to a modern, fair, and sustainable education.

Investing in educational curriculum development is crucial for shaping the national conscience and creating a new era of stability and prosperity, as knowledge serves as the strongest foundation for protecting national achievements. The combination of political determination and academic expertise creates a path toward a future where science illuminates every home, turning challenges into opportunities for creativity and comprehensive human leadership.
