The Federal Ministry of Education, Culture and Higher Education of Somalia, working closely with the Banadir Regional Education Directorate, has initiated a specialized training program for public school principals. This strategic move aims to broaden the implementation of the National School Meals Program across educational institutions in Mogadishu.

This capacity-building initiative seeks to improve the operational readiness and administrative capabilities of school leadership, enabling them to effectively manage and implement the program with high standards of efficiency, transparency, and sustainability.

The training emphasized modern management systems, standardized operational procedures, and strict financial and administrative oversight. Concurrently, it reinforced governance and accountability measures to guarantee the consistent provision of safe, reliable, and hygienic school meal services.

The Ministry highlighted that the school feeding initiative serves as a fundamental component in supporting the national education sector, playing a crucial role in boosting daily student attendance, reducing absenteeism and school dropout rates, and fostering a more supportive learning environment for children.

The program also aims to enhance the overall nutritional and health status of students, positively impacting their academic performance, physical development, and cognitive abilities, especially among vulnerable and underprivileged local communities.

The Ministry reaffirmed its firm governmental commitment to expanding and enhancing the program’s scope in partnership with international development organizations, ensuring Somali students have access to a stable and high-quality educational environment that effectively supports ongoing learning.

The National School Meals Program stands as one of Somalia’s premier educational and humanitarian initiatives, focused on promoting school retention and enhancing educational quality. It forms part of broader national efforts to develop a more inclusive, resilient, and socially responsive education system.

This coordinated effort by the Federal Ministry of Education demonstrates an increasing institutional dedication to integrating social safety nets within the educational structure. By strengthening school feeding operations, the government addresses immediate nutritional needs while advancing human capital development, creating vital socioeconomic foundations for nationwide progress.
