The Ministry of Environment and Climate Change officially launched the Validation Workshop for Somalia’s third Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0) on Sunday in Mogadishu. The workshop marks a key milestone in Somalia’s climate action efforts under the Paris Agreement.
Government officials, technical experts, and key stakeholders from across federal institutions have gathered to assess and validate the revised national climate action plan. The updated NDC outlines Somalia’s renewed commitments to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, strengthen climate resilience, and promote sustainable development.
Speaking at the opening session, ministry representatives emphasized the importance of inclusive dialogue and data-driven planning to address the country’s vulnerability to climate change. The workshop provides a platform for cross-sectoral collaboration, ensuring that Somalia’s NDC 3.0 reflects national priorities and international obligations.
The outcomes of the validation process will inform Somalia’s final NDC submission ahead of the next UN climate summit. The ministry reaffirmed its dedication to a transparent and participatory process that empowers both government and civil society in shaping a greener future for the country.
