Bonn, Germany — Somalia has achieved a historic milestone by becoming the first East African nation to submit and launch its revised Nationally Determined Contribution (NDC 3.0), unveiled during the ongoing 62nd session of the Subsidiary Bodies of the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (SB62).

This significant step underscores Somalia’s commitment to ambitious climate action and sustainable development. The NDC 3.0 reflects enhanced adaptation and mitigation strategies tailored to Somalia’s unique vulnerabilities as a climate-impacted state. It also outlines concrete pathways to reduce greenhouse gas emissions, enhance resilience across key sectors, and mobilize financing for green growth.

Expressing heartfelt appreciation, Somalia acknowledged the invaluable support of its international and regional partners in crafting this revised NDC. The government commended the collaborative technical and financial assistance from the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC), NDC Partnership, UNDP Somalia, the World Bank, FAO Somalia, and other stakeholders who played a vital role throughout the process.

As Somalia takes this bold climate leadership role in East Africa, its representatives reaffirmed their resolve to implement NDC 3.0 with integrity, transparency, and inclusivity — engaging youth, civil society, the private sector, and vulnerable communities to build a more resilient, green, and sustainable future for all Somalis.

With this milestone, Somalia aims to inspire peer countries across the region to enhance their own climate ambitions and advocate for increased global climate finance to support developing nations on the frontlines of climate change.
