Mogadishu – Somalia’s Ministry of Environment and Climate Change, led by Lt. Gen. Bashir Mohamed Jama, joined other stakeholders in commemorating the World Environment Day on June 5th.
He was with representatives from the federal government, AUSSOM, UNSOS, UNCT, and UNTMIS to commemorate the global day at the Tukul in the UNSOS Compound, Mogadishu.
This year’s global theme, “Ending Plastic Pollution,” was echoed by the local slogans: “Restore the land, revive the earth” and “Heal the soil, renew the future.”
The event featured cultural performances, a tour of green initiatives, and speeches from senior officials, concluding with a symbolic tree planting ceremony.
In his address, Lt. Gen. Jama reaffirmed Somalia’s commitment to fighting climate change and advancing sustainable environmental stewardship through united, cross-sector efforts.
