The 2025 Emergency Trend Tracking (ETT) cycle commenced in February to track displacement patterns during the Jilaal dry season. ETT operations concentrated on high-priority districts as outlined in the humanitarian response strategy. Nevertheless, geographic coverage varied due to challenges in access stemming from conflict and budgetary restrictions. DTM Somalia maintained monitoring in up to 25 key districts from February through June, reduced to 15 districts in July, and further decreased to 5 districts beginning in August.
Throughout the assessment timeframe, DTM personnel documented 385,645 new arrivals spread across 3,794 locations, comprising 91% urban and 9% rural settlements, including 3,365 internally displaced person sites within the 25 monitored districts. Conflict and drought emerged as the main catalysts for displacement, each responsible for 47% of new arrivals. Additional displacement factors reported encompassed flooding (4%), evictions (2%), and miscellaneous natural disasters or elements (less than 1%).
