Mogadishu, SomaliaSomalia’s Minister of Finance, Bihi Egeh, held a high-level meeting today with Charles King, Head of Mission at the British Embassy in Somalia, to strengthen bilateral cooperation on economic reforms, growth, and climate resilience.

The talks focused on Somalia’s ongoing economic reform agenda, the country’s pursuit of inclusive growth, and efforts to access international climate finance to mitigate environmental shocks and build long-term resilience.

Egeh praised the United Kingdom’s support, noting, “The UK is a strategic partner in our national economic development.”

He emphasized Somalia’s determination to implement sound financial management and fiscal discipline, which are critical to sustaining recent economic progress and achieving self-reliance.

Amb. King reaffirmed the UK’s continued support for Somalia’s reform journey and its efforts to unlock climate financing opportunities. The UK has been a long-standing development partner of Somalia, supporting governance, institutional reform, and humanitarian response.

The meeting comes as Somalia continues to build on its success under the IMF-supported economic reform program and post-debt relief development path. Both sides committed to enhancing coordination on development financing and resilience-building programs, especially in light of increasing climate-related risks across the Horn of Africa.

The engagement marks another step in the deepening of Somalia–UK cooperation aimed at ensuring sustainable economic recovery, job creation, and poverty reduction.
